My first i-opener arrived. It's the one I ordered from their web
site. The two I've ordered from Circuit City haven't shown up, and
the folks at the store seem remarkably unhelpful about that.

I've got it powered up and connected to the i-opener service. I did
sign up for month-to-month on this unit, as I'm interested in test
driving their service. I might want to pass this unit on to the in-laws
for e-mail.

But something to note if you plan to hack a unit. Do =not= let it
take you through the tutorial if you ever want to restore it to
original condition. The tutorial (with sound) is stored on the
SanDiskOnChip as delivered, but once you've completed the tutorial
and the unit connects to the service, the tutorial will be deleted.

You will get an animated screen that says your IPAD is being
updated, and you should wait a moment. That "moment", in my case,
was nearly an hour.

So, if you wanna hack it, get to a shell and dd the DOC somewhere
safe before you let it connect (if you let it connect at all).
