Hi, My ZIP drive is very strange, I don't know if every one is just like that. When booting, I SCSI_DELAY is too low and I've just powered on the machine, the ZIP drive is not recognized: (da0:aha0:0:5:0): READ CAPACITY. CDB: 25 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 (da0:aha0:0:5:0): error code 0 (da0:aha0:0:5:0): fatal error, failed to attach to device (da0:aha0:0:5:0): lost device (da0:aha0:0:5:0): removing device entry At first I thought it was a ZIP problem, disconsidering the fact that DOS/Windows and FreeBSD 2.2 did not have any problem. Today I got an even stranger problem: (da0:aha0:0:5:0): READ(06). CDB: 8 0 1 a0 80 0 (da0:aha0:0:5:0): NOT READY asc:4,3 (da0:aha0:0:5:0): Logical unit not ready, manual intervention required (da0:aha0:0:5:0): Invalidating pack I mounted the ZIP disk (ffs, if this matters), copied a file to hard disk, worked on it and was going to copy it back. Obviously, the ZIP has shut down for power save. When I did a ls, I got these messages, and the disk was ejected. Every other access to da0 returns with "Device not configured" When everything is ok, the relevant part of dmesg is: ... aha0 at 0x334-0x337 irq 11 drq 6 on isa aha0: AHA-1542C FW Rev. 0.1 (ID=44) SCSI Host Adapter, SCSI ID 7, 16 CCBs ... da0 at aha0 bus 0 target 5 lun 0 da0: <IOMEGA ZIP 100 E.08> Removable Direct Access SCSI-2 device da0: 3.300MB/s transfers da0: 96MB (196608 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 96C) cd0 at aha0 bus 0 target 3 lun 0 cd0: <TEAC CD-ROM CD-56S 1.0B> Removable CD-ROM SCSI-2 device cd0: 3.333MB/s transfers (3.333MHz, offset 8) cd0: Attempt to query device size failed: NOT READY, Medium not present ... Now, two questions: 1) If the system refuses to detect the disk at boot, is there some form to reattach it ? The pass-through pass1 (I also have a CD) device is present, but not the da0 device. camcontrol rescan does not work as I expected. How could I attach the drive to da0 ? 2) I've never seen this last problem before. Maybe my ZIP drive has some defect ? Or is it a problem in CAM ? I'm using 3.0-stable. Thank in advance, Jonny PS: I do not subscribe to -scsi for a long time. Please, remember to send a copy of the answers directly to me. -- Joao Carlos Mendes Luis M.Sc.
