On Sunday, this was posted to the annoucement list of a local LUG (see 
http://oclug.on.ca/archives/oclug-announce/2003-January/000060.html).  I'm 
going to be at the event with a small BSD network.  Hope to get some of you 
there...

                          OPEN SOURCE WEEKEND

Date:          Saturday and Sunday, January 25-26, 2003
Location:      University of Ottawa, Carleton University, RA Centre.

On 2003 January 25 and 26, a coalition of computer professionals,
students, and volunteers will host an Open Source Weekend in Ottawa,
Canada. The events will be spread across the city and throughout the
weekend to showcase the dynamic world of open source software. The major
activities will be the:

    * Linuxfest at the University of Ottawa            (Sat. Jan. 25th)
    * Linuxfest at Carleton University                 (Sat. Jan. 25th)
    * The Business of Open Source Software conference. (Sun. Jan. 26th)

The events are all open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to
attend.  Bring your friends, family, and co-workers too!  All events are
free, but the respective organizations will be collecting donations.

LINUXFEST: UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA

Brought to you by the University of Ottawa's Computer Science Students'
Association, the activities here will include:

    * a trade show with companies that produce and use open source
      software
    * demonstrations of various examples of open source software
    * installs of any flavour of the Linux operating system
    * tutorials, presentations, and films.

LINUXFEST: CARLETON UNIVERSITY

The activities presented by the Carleton Computer Science Society will
feature:

    * installs of Redhat and Mandrake Linux, and network installs of
      Debian GNU-Linux,
    * Linux-For-Beginners seminars, and
    * practical demonstrations of Linux and its associated applications
      in action.

BUSINESS OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

The Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group presents the second annual Business
of Open Source Software (BOSS) conference. BOSS is a forum for the
presentation and discussion of the exploding use of open source software
in the world of business.


Office Environment Demonstration:

The day will begin with a demonstration of a working, networked office
environment using the Linux operating system and some of its most
successful software, such as the Apache webserver, and the
OpenOffice.org office suite. It will also show Linux in a mixed
computing environment with other operating systems. This will be a
hands-on activity.


Keynote Speaker:

The afternoon brings the conference proper. Our special guest will be:

    * Martin Fink, General Manager for Hewlett-Packard's Linux Systems
      Division, and author of "`The Business and Economics of Linux and
      Open Source", speaking on the practical use of open source
      software in business --- its introduction, integration, and value.


Panel Discussion:

Then our speaker will join a panel comprising IT and business leaders
from the Ottawa region and beyond:

    * Jim Elliott, Linux Advocate for IBM Canada,
    * Danese Cooper, Open Source Programs Office, Sun Microsystems,
    * Eid Eid, President and CEO of OEone
    * Joseph Potvin, Manager, Enterprise Architecture, GTIS, PWGSC
    * Geoff Davidson, PostgreSQL, Inc.
