There's a chapter in the new O'Reilly book _LDAP System
Administration_ on integrating sendmail, postfix and exim with
LDAP. That chapter is online at:

Some folks on another list have complained that the book doesn't have
enough Admin, or that it collects info available elsewhere, but I am
finding it helpful.

I'm setting up qmail-ldap with an OpenLDAP directory, BTW, and
unfortunately there's no qmail-ldap chapter.  But the concepts are
helpful.
