I have a sony viao GRX690 with the same sound card. I kind of have the same deal except I am tracking 4.8 STABLE. Sound only works for me when I have XServer running with DRM-DRI via my Ati Radeon graphics card running. I have absolutly no idea why this is so. But try getting Xserver running with drm and see if that helps.
