With FreeBSD 4.9 just around the corner, I'd like to make all distributors of FreeBSD aware of the situation with binary security updates. I'm building these (currently for 4.7 and 4.8, but I will add 4.9 soon after it is released), and they can be fetched and installed via the security/freebsd-update port. Because of the way that FreeBSD Update works, I need to have copies of the original binaries before a system can be updated. Consequently: 1. If you don't need to distribute customized binaries (ie, if you don't have local patches), then it is a Good Idea to distribute copies of the binaries from the official release ISO or FTP distributions. 2. If you absolutely must build the binaries yourself, *contact me*. I can probably get FreeBSD Update to support your distribution -- but only if you supply me with the information I need.
