This may be a difficult question to answer, but what sort of funding /
equipment would be necessary to produce amd64 binaries?  I would imagine
there would be an initial cost as well as a continuing cost for updated
versions and 1.6, 1.7 et al.

Not long ago, Michael Vince inquired about raising funds.  Perhaps a
tangible goal could help move this effort forward?
