I don't know if other applications like screen allow this, but using `tio` from https://tio.github.io/ (it's in FreeBSD Ports - comms/tio) you can connect to the device before it's active. If you don't see any output and you're using the RELEASE firmware I provided, could you try again with the DEBUG version? -- Rebecca Cran
