So I guess there > is some more configuring I need to do? You should have a sendmail.cf in /etc/mail. But that won't download mail from a POP or IMAP server. I think mutt might do this itself, though I'm not sure, but the canonical application at the moment is fetchmail. And yes, I've heard of bugs in it.
