I understand FreeBSD never updated gperf in the system because the new versions are written in C++ and we didn't want to require a C++ compiler to build the toolchain. Of course with the new clang toolchain this is not an issue anymore but with the new toolchain gperf is not required either ;). In any case fixing this in OpenOffice (and LibreOffice) requires an ugly workaround that ends up using the lang/gperf port. Perhaps it's time to re-evaluate this update.
