I saw something similar recently due to a mismatch between hald and the xorg server. In my case, it affected all applications, not just firefox. * Are you running hald? * Do you have "AllowEmptyInput" set in /etc/X11/xorg.conf? * Are you starting xdm, kdm, or gdm from /etc/ttys?
