FWIW, I've tried redhat6.2, and while I know freebsd better than I know linux. /etc under freebsd makes more sense to me than /etc on linux. I hate all those runlevels and stuff...normal mode and single user mode are all I need. I like to think of single user mode as analogous to the Windows 'safe' mode, but without the annoying reboot to get in or out of it.
