As someone who usually has to fix things when people screw up, I'm very familiar with the problem and when people fix things for the better.

There is one lingering problem in the area: the socket interface is safe from an alignment point of view, but we haven't tagged the structures properly to keep the compiler happy.  Turns out to be kinda tricky...
