--- Comment #20 from Benjamin Jacobs <freebsd@dev.thsi.be> ---
FWIW, I've used FreeBSD on such hardware, using a snapshot of 14.0-STABLE a=
md64
in June 2023. As said, FreeBSD's EFI-loaders do not support such rare 32-bi=
ts
EFI environment, hence the install media does not work out-of-the box.

However, by using rEFInd it is possible to chain-boot the FreeBSD install m=
edia
(in my case, using an USB key, I've not tried using the CDROM). The resulti=
ng
installed system also needs rEFInd to be "chain-booted". From what I recall,
the rEFInd installation on the final system was quite straightforward: a co=
uple
.efi payload to put on the EFI partition, and a simple config file to
chain-load FreeBSD's EFI loader.

At this point, since it seems unlikely that anyone would want to work on a
32bit EFI loader, maybe some updated documentation, wiki or forum-post is =
all
that we should aim for?

(Unfortunately, I do not have access to said hardware anymore to be able to
contribute a more accurate installation procedure. For sure, it was possible
last year using only officially-built versions of FreeBSD and rEFInd togeth=
er.
I don't see any reason that it wouldn't be the case anymore. That hardware =
is
still quite capable, and there isn't really that much in the way to keep us=
ing
it with FreeBSD :-) )
