I believe that the folks are 3ware are working on 1. Write to
them and ask. I had a  brief talk to them recently and they were
very informative and helpfull.

I believe it has to do with higher complexity of implementation.

Even just Raid 0, 1 and 10 are a very good start for IDE. SCSI
raid and drives is just too expensive for small servers.
