Thank for the gently advice. This is a statement what I should have done, I hereby apologize for not asking before I started to install. I will newer ever attempt to install everything, without proper investigation. What can I do now ? cd /usr/ports/x11/ make deinstall ? cd /usr/ports/x11/XFree85-4/ make install ? my problem is still that I cannot start the x server. What really is XFree85-4 ? I'm looking for a general purpose desktop solution, I have read recommendations about, FreeBSD 4.4-Release XFree86 3.3.6 KDE 2.2 or higher. I want no linux emulations, and I want to get as close as possible to real unix. I wanted to install some tools for viewing PostScript files. And for converting between PostScript and portable Document format. It was istalled , but it didn't work .
