That was my first thought too, but in that case why does the
FBIO_GETPALETTE ioctl() return the same palette entries on i386
and alpha?

Another cosmetic console issue: Setting a "destructive" cursor with
vidcontrol(1) gives a blinking underline on i386, but a blinking
block on alpha.
