Can you describe the drives and arrangements in the troubled machines? I've been installing on quite a mix of CD-ROM and DVD-ROM based machines, including some creative drives, with no issues. The bug reported was w/creative drives using PIO4, and it appeared to cause a hard lockup, which doesn't quite sound the same.
