Yeh, unfortunately, most modern laptops no longer have this option accessible in the BIOS - my 6000 and the original posters' 6100 don't have it either. This is becoming increasingly common in laptops, according to other posts I've read in this very forum. ACPI is the great hope here to address that issue, but that opens up other problems (e.g. with the ACPI implementations themselves). At least -CURRENT gives you the UNSUPPORTED_IO_RANGE mojo, which sometimes works...
