Personally, I think that trying is always worthwhile. People who are currently running (or trying to run) FreeBSD and ports on their PowerPC based machines today are a kind of pioneers - they're doing this before anybody else. But, it requires a lot of special qualities; patience, stubbornness, not giving up in spite of many failures, and keeping trying in spite of little feedback. So, personally I think you should continue. But the decision is up to you. Oh, and here is a small "trick" I use; when I'm banging my head against impossible problems on a project, I put it down and let it rest for a while, and do something else in the mean time.
