Exactly nothing which was my point (and yours I believe). If the adapter can't figure out its own settings there isn't much the kernel can do for it. This isn't like ethernet were you can just blindly setup the interface media type and stomp on things. If your adapter doesn't meditate properly and achieve oneness with the ring it will not insert and we won't have to worry about ringspeed anyway :) /* Matthew N.
