> The problem is, some kinds of flag-waving people expect from core. I agree that people's expectations are sometimes a problem. :) > A lot of people have the perception that they need cores nod to start > things "offcially". Take projects.freebsd.org as an example. That's a bad example since having ``projects.freebsd.org'' as an address needs the hostmaster to intervene. Other than the specific case where somebody wants a piece of the freebsd.org namespace, people are free to go off and create anything they like. Whether people ultimately buy into it will subsequently have a *lot* more to do with whether or not the mechanism is easy to use and fills a clear need than core "approving" of it. > A lot of people do not have the courage to stand forward alone and > wave the flag, but given even a modest investment of encouragement > and interest they will. Which you and anyone else in committers are free to give them. You seem to be under the impression that now that you've stepped outside of core, you can demand that it do all the things you're personally disinclined to do or something. :) That won't wash, nor will (again) implying that core is somehow magically more able to do something than committers at large. > Of course you wont see a lot of hands if you ask for somebody to > implement "clustering", but if you ask for a team if FAQ writers, > I'm sure we can find them. I've asked for FAQ writers more times than I can count. As far as I can see, it has very little to do with the number who actually volunteer. :) > You want a more dynamic homepage ? Ask for somebody to do it instead > of expecting already busy committers to do so... Excuse me? Who's supposed to do this kind of thing if not committers? They're the only ones with write access. - Jordan To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe cvs-all" in the body of the message
