I think we need a lot more information for this. It sounds to me like you have an automatic file system check failing when you boot. Could you describe what happens, please? For reference, the device files are just names which point to tables in the kernel. It is possible to lose them, but the results wouldn't quite be what you describe. Merry Christmas Greg
