Yes, I also tried: sh MAKEDEV snd0, but that did not solve the mixer error. Apparently, the code seems to not detect a mixer (although I know one does exist) because typing mixer gets the device not configured error. I looked into the mixer code and I might be able to bluff it by skipping the mixer detection and making it the SoundBlaster Pro mixer by default. But even if that works, it will only be 8 bit sound instead of 16 bit MSS. But oh well...
