I've been mostly away from my mail for a few days, so this probably
is too late to do any good, but ...  The kind of situation you
described is a good application for CVSup's "checkout mode".  You
could specify any date, and CVSup would update (downdate? :-) your
sources back to that point in time.  It would go pretty fast, because
only the diffs would be transferred.
