Taking a look at the online version, this has already been fixed:
Note: In FreeBSD 4.2 and older you must replace KERCONF=3D with KERNEL=
=3D.
4.2-STABLE that was fetched after Feb 2nd, 2001 does recognize KERNCONF=
=3D
