The last thing it prints on the VGA screen is: Probing for devices on the ISA bus: sc0 at 0x60-0x6f irq 1 on motherboard Normally the next line is: sc0: VGA color <16 virtual consoles, flags=0x0> I swapped vga cards (junk VGA clone to a known good S3-801 card), and it now only fails the probe about 1 in 10 times, instead of 8 in 10. I'm not ruling out a hardware problem on the motherboard. Sometimes the machine powers up and can't find the vga card either. Cheers, -Peter
