hi jus finished putting the finishing touches on a new 4.7 install onto a TECRA 720CDT strange thing started happenning that is not hardware related after starting X, whether plain vanilla X or KDE after a few min or a few seconds the laptop locks up solid, i mean just freezes, nothing in the logs. hard reboot is the only cure, no key sequence to kill the X server (as in ctl-alt-bkspc), or to ctl-alt-Fx to get back to a terminal or even to ping or telnet into laptop from across the LAN, i mean the sucker is so frozen that the only indication it's still on is teh frozen image on the screen. thought at first it was hardware, so i ran it in windoz for long periods and it does fine, it runs fine under FBSD 4.7 as long as i don't invoke X win this happens as mentioned only after invoking X and X loads doesn't matter if i'm using the laptop's internal joystick style pointer or an external mouse attached to its PS/2 port. any one have similar exp or suggestions? --P PS: wondering if the moused daemon might hav been the problem so i diabled moused in rc.conf and also killed off moused now when i startx whether plain vanilla or kde there is no mouse or rather there is a pointer in the middle of the screen that can't be moved whereas when moused was active i could move the pointer but then it'd lock up solid as stated above.. pls note that i use an external mouse most always rather than rely on laptop's internal joystick style mouse.
