The Ultra Bay is most certainly hot-swappable, but it requires that the system send BIOS a request to disable the drive bay before you can remove any device. I suspect the code would be trivial if documentation was available on the API. IBM is very Linux friendly and has provided that sort of information in the past for Linux development. While they typically won't acknowledge the existence of FreeBSD, the information we need might be out there. Might require some munging on apm.c but should be possible from a modified atacontrol. R.
