setting PCVT_KBD_FIFO to 0 resolved the problem for me - thus i think the bad
code is somethere in pcvt_kbd.c - maybe this may help to find the bug (joerg -

p.s.: a good way to crash the system (for testing purposes :-) is
modload -e union_init /lkm/union_mod.o
