You also could try whether your drive works better with cdrecord + ATAPICAM. http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/creating-cds.html#ATAPICAM A benefit of using ATAPICAM is that this enables you to use nice gui tools like sysutils/k3b.
