Try typing ``dmesg | fgrep sio''. You should see a few lines
something like:
sio0 at 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 flags 0x10 on isa
sio0: type 16550A
This indicates that cuaa0 (COM1) is available. Don't attempt to use
any cua devices that are not probed correctly....
