That usually indicates that you typed a bad password.  Also FreeBSD by =
default does not allow root logins, try logging in as a standard user =
and add them to the wheel group.

Or you can add the following to your sshd_config file.

PermitRootLogin yes

Subject:	OpenSSH cannot login - PAM Authentication Failure

Hi everybody,

              I cannot login to SSH. I use TTSSH as a client on windows.
Everytime I type in my host (ritm) password (***) Freebsd
comes up with the error "PAM Authentication Failure". I disable PAM from
sshd_config but I still get this problem. Any help on this would be
much appreciated.
