The vast majority of Linux users use it because it's Linux, not because it isn't Windows. Unfortunately, the small minority the uses Linux only because they hate Windows tend to have the loudest and shrillest voices. If all you know of the Linux community is what you read on Slashdot, you could very well get that impression.
