It's better if you don't access the repository over NFS.  cvs checkout and
update on freefall, then ssh over to beast for testing.  Or, on beast use a
$CVSROOT of "you@freefall:/home/ncvs" with $CVS_RSH set to "ssh".  I will
update the stuff on beast when I get a chance though...
