As much as I hate to back the oppo (I don't like -v), I have to say
that ``mkdir -pv /a/b/c/d'' where /a/b exists and /a/b/c doesn't
should print
/a/b/c
/a/b/c/d
and therefore is giving you more than ``echo $*''.
