For simple cases it is largely a matter of personal preference. Many of us old farts prefer PORTVERSION because it's been in use for so long and IMHO makes more sense when reading the Makefile. What I dislike, however, is the gratuitous change (in either direction) when the actual version remains the same because it pessimizes blaming. ./danfe
