However, liberally spreading CDROMs around CS departments at Universities is another thing entirely. Lacking a CDROM? Then a laptop or luggable with 800M or so works well. Especially if it has ethernet. I have a 386SX16 with 4.5M of memory, a slow poke 8 bit ethernet board, all in a briefcase size box, that I use for exactly that purpose. NFS installs run 80k/sec. The system is still running 2.1.0 because that's what I had when the HD was in a system with enough RAM to install.
