It is known that attempt to boot from USB mass storage devices on some machines gives the halt in BTX. (See, for example "http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=usb/118571") So, one can try to to build install ISO with realbtx patch applied and see, if the problem gone. The patch is "http://people.freebsd.org/~kib/realbtx/realbtx.2.patch" Alexey.
