The reasons for the port was for some semi-embedded systems I was working on. In the end I decided it would be quicker to write my own OS with an emulation library for easy porting of Unix programs, the reasons behind this was mostly size and time related. There are a number of interesting processors out there designed specifically for embedded systems, and I would like to resume porting of FreeBSD to some of them.
