After you understand -stable/-current/-release it may turn out that -release is what you want. If that is the case then there are ISO images. Most people who want stable track it with cvsup. If you do have a full source set under CVS control you can try making your own release. Get the 'release' src distribution. Check the handbook, archives, all the places you search for information, search for information about 'release'. I tried making my own release but didn't manage my disk space well.
