This can only be the case on a Promise controller, I have allready
committed a fix for that (it always selected PIO mode).

A current quick test on a 5400RPM IBM disk shows:

IOZONE performance measurements:
        9768393 bytes/second for writing the file
        11820143 bytes/second for reading the file

Remember that we have lost significant I/O bandwidth currently due 
to changes in vfs_bio and freinds.
