As the reporter of this fault, I would like to withdraw it as the
problem does not occur (in this form) in 2.1.0-RELEASE.

However, the drive is still detected as having the wrong number of
sectors at boot time and there is still no way of correcting this
(AFAIK). The installation program appears to ignore both the BIOS data
and any existing disklabel. It is possible to enter a different geometry
in the slice editor, but it does not re-calculate the number of sectors.

In 2.0R, it was possible to re-label the disk and then re-install, with
the correct disk label being recognised.

wd0: 327MB (670320 sectors), 665 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S

In fact it is a 425MB disk with 832608 sectors.

This is not critical, as it's a fairly mediocre machine that I only use
for dialling-up, but it would be nice to get it sorted out.

Other than that, 2.1.0R is excellent!
