Actually, I've done some work with scanners and cameras too. Not as extensive as the hell I went through for video playback, but still some hiccups and hurdles that I've seen people repeat. Forking the handbook into "Part II: Super-Hardware" or something like that seems like a pretty good idea. There was a point in time when FreeBSD support for exotic devices was non-existent, but a lot of things have changed, particularly because of the adoption of USB (that and PCMCIA might deserve their own chapters). With PCMCIA and USB, there is the potential for a lot of devices to start appearing on the market which will quickly have drivers written for them. "Part II" is likely to grow quickly. For now though, I'm more inclined to just add the part about vchans to my current chapter 14, which seems doable, get that chapter 14 committed, because I think it is important to save people headaches [and TV/DVD apps are very popular these days], and then start thinking about a second book, and maybe getting some volunteers, since I only know the devices I have -- and I'm not a big hacker, really. -r To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message
