I think that would be kind of cool.  Actually, I've done some work with
scanners and cameras too.  Not as extensive as the hell I went through
for video playback, but still some hiccups and hurdles that I've seen
people repeat.

Forking the handbook into "Part II: Super-Hardware" or something like
that seems like a pretty good idea.  There was a point in time when
FreeBSD support for exotic devices was non-existent, but a lot of
things have changed, particularly because of the adoption of USB (that
and PCMCIA might deserve their own chapters).  With PCMCIA and USB,
there is the potential for a lot of devices to start appearing on the
market which will quickly have drivers written for them.  "Part II" is
likely to grow quickly.

For now though, I'm more inclined to just add the part about vchans to
my current chapter 14, which seems doable, get that chapter 14
committed, because I think it is important to save people headaches
[and TV/DVD apps are very popular these days], and then start thinking
about a second book, and maybe getting some volunteers, since I only
know the devices I have -- and I'm not a big hacker, really.
