I'm not totally sure because I haven't worked with ppp in years, but when I
did, I used the device files:

 /dev/cuaa[0-N]

those are the "outgoing" device files for serial ports that Com programs like
minicom, etc. would use. Try

  cd /dev && sh MADEDEV cuaa4

and use /dev/cuaa4
