Unless you absolutely had to use a hardware RAID controller, I would
recommend using The Vinum Volume Manager -
http://www.lemis.com/vinum.html.  I've found it has little resource
overhead, and is comparable in speed to a hardware based controller.  The
setup and configuration is not that difficult and is worth the money you
spend!  Good luck.
