Similarly for $LD_LIBRARY_PATH, the default path STANDARD_SEARCH_DIRS = "/usr/lib" built into ld and ld.so, and paths specified by -L options - the path specifies precisely the directories to be searched, and there is no ambiguity about whether to append /aout or loss of control by forced appendage of /aout. There are some confusing ambiguities in this area for compiler paths. Bruce
