GNOME requires a GNOME compliant window manager. These include, among
others, enlightenment, sawmill/sawfish, and windowmaker. Of the three, I
think that sawmill/sawfish works the best with GNOME in terms of
aesthetics, etc. As for the name, it used to be called sawmill, but they
had to change the name to sawfish. You version of FreeBSD might call it
by either name.
