Now that I have FreeBSD 3.4 up and running and have sucessfully compiled the kernel, I need to find a way to get a good backup of my system. So far, I've only found limited information on this topic in the Handbook and The Complete FreeBSD. I don't have a tape drive hooked up to my PC. I could probably get one but that would entail a lot of work. I'd have to locate and install a SCSI card for it, recompile the kernal and complete the rest of the configuration so that the drive would be recognized. We have some 3480, 3490 and 3570 drives in our data center that are hooked up to the network. Could I use dump or tar to do a backup directly to one of these drives. I know I can also backup to a file. Could I backup to a file and then use NFS or Samba to copy it to a directory on one of our NT servers and then possibly, back down to one of the tape drives? There seem to be several options for doing backups and I'm just trying to find the best one. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks.
