If you read GENERIC you find the following lines: # To make an SMP kernel, the next two are needed #options SMP # Symmetric MultiProcessor Kernel #options APIC_IO # Symmetric (APIC) I/O just uncomment the two options, recompile your kernel and you have a SMP capable kernel.
